EASY SCALLOPED TOMATOES

Ingredients:
4 slices white bread (3/8 inch thick)dried and coarsely broken
1/3 cup butter, melted
1 can tomatoes (1 lb.), broken up and undrained
6 tablespoons light brown sugar
1 tsp. salt
Several leaves minced fresh basil, or 1/4 tsp. dried basil

In a 9-inch pie plate pour the butter over the bread, stirring to coat. Heat to boiling the tomatoes, sugar, salt and basil; stir into the buttered bread. Press down the bread so it is submerged by the tomato mixture. Bake in a preheated 425 degree oven until browned around the edges, about 25 minutes. Serve hot.
